Description of project: The Nielsen Park Seawall project at Shark Beach, delivered by Cherrie Civil Engineering for the National Parks and Wildlife Service, revitalized one of Sydney Harbour’s most cherished swimming spots. The original 1930s seawall, damaged by storms in 2016, required a comprehensive rebuild involving the reconstruction of the seawall bleachers, promenade and landscaping environment.
Scope:
Installation of protection measures to remove risk of disturbing the local environment and protecting the works from significant tidal impacts.
Demolition and removal of the deteriorated existing seawall, promenade, and bleacher structures.
Installation of a new reinforced concrete seawall through CFA piles, sheet piles, stainless steel reinforcement and decorative marine concrete to achieve a 100-year design life and significantly enhance structural resilience.
Construction of custom-designed bleacher seating integrated into the new seawall for improved serviceability and public safety.
Implementation of specialist surface finishes to deliver high-quality architectural outcomes.
Installation of custom expansion joints to accommodate structural movement while maintaining aesthetic consistency and durability.
Extensive landscaping works, including erosion controls, stormwater management features, and the planting of native species to enhance ecological resilience.
Implementation of temporary marine protection measures, including sheet pile walls and silt booms, to protect water quality and marine life during construction activities.
Integration of modern environmental management and digital QA systems throughout project delivery.
Value of Contract: $11.5 million
